چکیده

buthotus saulcyi is one of the six most important scorpion species in khuzestan province, which its venom causes probable general effects on its victims. due to insufficient knowledge about mechanism of the venom functions and its target organs and highly dependence of health to normal function of kidney, this survey has been accomplished. in present study, 75 male wistar rats were selected and divided randomly to five groups (a-e). then 18, 24, 30 and 36 µgr/rat of the venom and 1ml normal saline was injected subcutaneously to groups a-e, respectively. after 3, 6, 12 and 36 hours of envenomation, blood sampling, euthanasia and necropsy were performed. histopathological study was performed on renal tissue samples and verification of bun, uric acid, creatinine, na and k of blood samples, were also measured. results showed no significant correlation between injection of examined doses of the venom and renal lesions but significant modification in some blood parameters depended to dose and time were seen(p<0.05). therefore it can presume that although examined doses of the venom can affect renal index parameters of blood but these amounts of venom have not much ability to induce renal lesions.

cDNA cloning, sequence analysis and molecular modeling of a new peptide from the scorpion Buthotus saulcyi venom.

In this study, the cDNA of a new peptide from the venom of the scorpion, Buthotus saulcyi, was cloned and sequenced. It codes for a 64 residues peptide (Bsaul1) which shares high sequence similarity with depressant insect toxins of scorpions. The differences between them mainly appear in the loop1 which connects the beta-strand1 to the alpha-helix and seems to be functionally important in long ...

Defibrination syndrome due to scorpion venom poisoning.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation occurred in dogs given scorpion venom subcutaneously in doses of 3 mg./kg. body weight. Treatment with heparin reversed the coagulation abnormality of the syndrome and 10 out of 12 dogs survived. Necropsy findings in human patients stung by scorpions suggest that this syndrome also occurs in man.

Determination of the Median Lethal Dose and Electrophoretic Pattern of Hottentotta saulcyi (Scorpiones, Buthidae) Scorpion Venom

BACKGROUND In this study, we investigated the lethal potency, electrophoretic protein pattern and in vivo effects of Hottentotta saulcyi scorpion venom in mice. METHODS Scorpions were collected at night, by using a UV lamp from Mardin Province, Turkey. Venom was obtained from mature H. saulcyi scorpions by electrical stimulation of the telson. The lethality of the venom was determined by i.v....

Identification and Purification of BS413 Neurotoxin from Iranian Scorpion (Buthotus Schach) Venom

Introduction: Scorpion venoms contain a variety of peptides, toxic to mammals، insects and crustaceans and are the main factors in scorpion venom toxicity (their amount being 1-3% of total venom). Most of the scorpion toxins have been isolated from the venoms of scorpions in the Buthidae family. The scorpion Buthotus Schach of this family is widely found in the western regions of Iran, but no p...

Antibacterial effects of crude venom and their protein fractions of Hottentotta saulcyi scorpion

Introduction: Infectious diseases, mainly caused by bacterial agents, are one of the most common causes of death worldwide. A significant number of these agents have been resistant to one or more antibiotics; some of them are multi-drug resistant and others are extensively drug resistant. Various antimicrobial and anticancer compounds have been reported from the venom of various species of scor...
